The film industry had a very productive year last year. Although the competition between Barbie and Oppenheimer was the highlight of the year, it was not unnoticed that the Super Mario Bros. movie became the second most-watched production. Nintendo, wanting to continue this popularity, has given the green light for the Super Mario Brothers Movie 2.
When will Super Mario Brothers Movie 2 be released?
Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment announced that the sequel to the Super Mario Bros. movie is in development. In this context, it was stated that the film is planned to be released on April 3, 2026. Illumination Studios said that animation for the film has started, and Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will be the directors.
Shigeru Miyamoto and Meledandri will once again produce the film. Miyamoto stated that the new production will be based on the world established in the first film. He said that audiences should expect “a bright and entertaining story.”
Nintendo is currently turning two major games into movies. The Legend of Zelda movie, announced a while ago, is being prepared by Maze Runner director Wes Ball. This production is also expected to be released in 2024.
In addition to the approval of Super Mario Brothers Movie 2, Nintendo also made statements about the upcoming Switch game and collection. According to this, the remastered version of the 3DS game Dark Moon, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, will be released on Switch on June 27th.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be released on Switch on May 23rd. The Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy collection will expand with new Mario games on March 12th.
